According to reports, four South By Southwest attendees were hurt Friday night when a camera boom fell into the crowd during OMD's set at Stubb's in Austin, Texas. A spokesperson for the Austin-Travis County EMS said that the injuries were minor, but those hurt were taken by ambulance to University Medical Center Brackenridge.
The camera boom had been gliding over the crowd to film previous performers, and it collapsed before OMD had started playing. Frontman Andy McCluskey said, "I think we need some help up here" before venue staff and EMS rushed through the parted crowd. One man reportedly had a large gash in his head, and many witnesses say they saw several bloodied fans along with a photographer taking pictures of the wounded who was subsequently removed from the grounds by force.
OMD (or Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark) are a British synth-pop outfit who rose to prominence during the New Wave movement of the '80s.
